Recipe to fight the common cold

smoothie Strawberries and kiwi are full of vitamin C and very healthy to fight off the flu and cold symptoms. Fresh lemon will help to clear the liver of toxins. This recipe is all natural and very easy to make. If you have a banana that’s a little old and starting to turn black, you can put this in your freezer and use it the next time you make a smoothie. Older bananas taste better in a smoothie.

Yummy Smoothie

½ cup frozen strawberries

½ cup frozen kiwis

2 tbsp lemon juice

½ cup orange juice

½ banana

Place all the ingredients in a blender and mix well. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy the smoothie. It is yummy and the kids would love this too.

Diabetic Recipe

tuna-recipe

If you have diabetes you are just like everyone else who should be eating a healthy diet. The only difference between you and someone without diabetes is that you shouldn’t skip meals or snacks.  The meals and snacks you eat should include fruit and vegetables, protein and healthy carbohydrates.

Tuna mid-day delight

½ cup tuna (canned in water packed)

1 celery stalk, diced

1 squirt of lemon juice

¼ cup Low fat yoghurt

¼ red onion, diced

A few baby spinach leaves

½ whole grain bagel or slice of whole wheat toast or similar

Mix the tuna, celery, low fat yoghurt, squirt of lemon juice and red onion together with a fork. If you can do without butter on your bagel or toast, then that is great. Place spinach leaves on top of toasted bagel and top with the tuna mixture.

This lunch is delightful served with tomato juice and a lemon wedge.
